It isn’t easy being a one-person operation. My friends are all over social media, which means that I need to have a social media omnipresence. I try to share all the good stuff in all the places. But sometimes that just isn’t possible. So, if you don’t want to miss any of the good stuff, please link up to me, connect, follow, hang out or do whatever it is you need to do. Here are a few links to start with.

OK. I know I said no recital. But la donna è mobile. For the past three months students have been polishing up piano and vocal selections for the May 18 recital. Awards are ordered and received. I am looking forward to hearing some beautiful music from everyone!
For the singers who are working with our accompanist… remember the ONLY rehearsal opportunity you will have will be Saturday, May 3 between 9:30-10:30. — Rehearsal at my studio.
I encourage all serious music students to participate in the MTAC Certificate of Merit or Royal Conservatory Music Development Program. These programs are structured to help you learn, to help you practice, and to gauge your progress. School-aged singers and pianists like to include their successes in these programs on their academic résumés.
The Music Development program offers evaluations two or three times/year. Certificate of Merit takes place in February and March. Students must have studied with their teacher for at least 6 months prior to Certificate of Merit registration which takes place mid-fall.

Students who wish to perform in recital, please note these opportunities. These will be the ONLY recital opportunities through June 2014. SIGN-UPS FOR THESE RECITALS MUST TAKE PLACE AT LEAST 1 MONTH PRIOR TO THE PERFORMANCE. There is no guarantee that a spot will be available on the program if you wait too long to sign-up. The earlier you do, the better. I will ONLY sign up students whose songs are MEMORIZED and PERFORMANCE READY at least 1 month prior to the performance. Again, the sooner your songs are ready, the better. The program fills quickly.
MSSL (Music Student Service League) performances for the Irvine Atria Woodbridge assisted living facility – 3/23/14 or 4/13/14.

On Saturday, February 15, 2014 Patricia Shanks will again judge the Burbank Philharmonic Young Artists Competition finals. Some good warm-up input for singers young and old. Not just for kids. http://www.singup.org/songbank/video/view/4752-warm-up-theory-and-practice-warm-up-5-explore-resonance/
I wish all of my students, colleagues and friends a most happy, healthy and successful 2014.
This is what happens when I’m home sick and away from teaching for the day. http://vocalcompass.blogspot.com/2013/12/a-singing-musician.html
